The Creation & Inspiration

My name is Natasha Mould and the journey creating this show only began in October 2020!

I am a musical theatre performer and choreographer who has always dreamed of creating a show. However,  with little experience on this side of the stage (or time spare) it was something I knew was for later in my career. Due to the affect COVID-19 had on the arts throughout 2020 and my own unemployment, it made me even more passionate about producing and creating a work opportunity for some of the most talented people I know who were in the same position I was.

The inspiration for this show comes from my own pandemic carer shift. In early March 2020, when lockdown began and curtains closed, I immediately acquired a full time job in a local community care role. I switched bright lights around mirrors and standing ovations for unkempt ground floor flats and wiping bums. In all honesty … I loved it. After nine months of being a full-time carer of the elderly I decided the story of theatre workers in 2020 must be told. I spoke with friends and found inspiration in their endeavours into new and highly altered lifestyles like my own. I took those stories and did what us ‘stagey’ lot do best – Make a song and dance out of it!

Musical Composer/orchestrator

Richard Vanryne

Coming from a highly musical family, Richard played trumpet from a young age in various Brass, Wind and Jazz Bands. He featured with his Electronic Rock band ‘The Disciples’ on BBC Radio Introducing in 2012 and then again in 2019. Studying music production at the University of Kent, he was introduced to film scoring, and after founding his composition company ‘Noisehook’, has gone on to score for independent films and video games. Richard thrives on new opportunities and has broadened his portfolio to include musical theatre, collaborating with Taylor Walker on numerous projects, more recently the short performance pieces ‘The Storm’, ‘Mother’s Calling’ and ‘A Chorus Line (Reimagined)’. Working on ‘2020 The Musical' showcases Richard’s diversity through his use of percussive rhythm, thematic melodies and layering. This work aims to create environments reflective of the characters that they represent using everyday sounds.
